Participants should have drawing experience and some knowledge of soft pastel technique. Bring your own pastels, papers, sketchbooks, drawing board, easel and your OWN photos or sketches to work from

Explore the possibilities of the jewel-like quality of this exciting and versatile medium. Learn pastel techniques and tips for utilizing color temperature, design and value structure to good effect in your work.

The workshop will start with a demo/discussion, then individual guidance with the goal of developing or evolving your own personal style. Common problems and simple solutions. Learn about methods of correcting mistakes, the benefits of editing to simplify your design, and when to know your painting is finished to avoid overworking.

In 2002, Hallmark Entertainment produced television miniseries for ABC-TV based on the "Dinotopia" books that received record-setting ratings and an Emmy award for best visual effects. The series will be shown in the Arkell Museum Great Hall. Stop in during your visit to see the DINOTOPIA exhibition or come for non-stop viewing of the series beginning at 1:15 pm.
