Bus Trip

Clark Art Institute and Bennington Museum Fall Bus Tour
$55 / $50 Members

We’ll depart at 8am from the Arkell on a private chartered bus through
the beautiful fall colors of the Berkshires. Our first destination is the Clark Art Institute for a private tour of the permanent collection, followed by lunch on your own and shopping in downtown Bennington, VT, then a tour of the Bennington Museum’s Grandma Moses exhibit and 2010 Invitational
Artisan Craft Show. We’ll arrive back at the Arkell at 6pm. A great day to spend with friends (and Arkell staff and volunteers)! Snacks and refreshments provided. Sample lunch menus from downtown Bennington restaurants will be circulated on the bus.

Weave a scarf of your own

Hand-Woven Scarf with Sharon Kruppenbacher
$60 / $56 Members

Spend a brisk fall afternoon weaving a scarf in the natural light of the Arkell Museum’s Great Hall with local weaver Sharon Kruppenbacher. Not only will you learn how to use a small floor loom, you will leave the class with your very own scarf! Kruppenbacher will provide valuable assistance in this intimate hands-on class. Space limited to first five registrants — reserve your space early! Supplies included.

Weave a Pie Basket

Two Pie Holiday Basket with Sandy Salada
$50 / $47 Members

Join master basketmaker Sandy Salada to weave the perfect basket for the holidays! You’ll create a plain weave basket using natural flat reed with an optional accent color and a sturdy wooden handle. Ideal for carrying festive holiday meals, especially two small pies! $50 class fee includes $20 in basket materials. No experience necessary!

Wire Wrapping

Wire Wrapped Stone Pendant with Sandi Haggett
$35 / $33 Members

Join Rensselaer jewelry artisan Sandi Haggett for this popular Capital-area workshop. You’ll learn the basic techniques of wire wrapping—a centuries-old craft—using Sterling silver wire to frame a cabochon and create a wearable pendant. Instructor will assist students so they can wear their pendants home! $35 class fee includes $15 in pendant materials. No experience necessary!

Learn to draw Manga


Manga Drawing for Tweens and Teens with Jim Parker
$7 / $6 Members

Students will develop their own Manga characters and story line with the help of Jim Parker, who has taught this class to teens with rave reviews at the Utica Library, the Kirkland Art Center, and the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts. While the primary focus of the class will be creating Manga, Parker will also provide examples of popular Manga artists’ work and background on the Japanese style.
